A Course in Loving Yourself

ACourseinLovingYourselfResized2

I work with so many women who think that self-care is a luxury and self-love is out of reach. They’ll prioritize everyone else’s needs before their own and before long they’re completely burnt out and struggling to love themselves. I know this struggle all too well because I was doing this same thing for so long that it became the norm. I was exhausted, depleted, and kept showing up for everyone else except for myself. And then I made a vow to practice self-care so that I could learn to truly LOVE and appreciate myself. By making this shift to operate from a place of self-love, I was able to fill up my life with so much love and light that instead of constantly filling up everyone else’s cup while leaving mine empty, I filled my life with an amazing self-care routine, positive affirmations, kindness, and a true acceptance and appreciation of myself – and now I want to help you do the same!

It breaks my heart when I hear women say that they don’t feel as though they’re worthy of love and that they’re not deserving of the life that they dream of for themselves. If you feel this way, I want to tell you that you are absolutely worthy of love. You deserve to have a life that lights you up. You can let your light shine brightly. But you have to love yourself first. You can’t attract goodness, abundance, or the romantic love you deserve unless you learn to first love yourself – just as you are, right now.

And that’s why I’m offering “A Course in Loving Yourself” to just 10 women who are ready to make changes to their lives so that they can stop pleasing everyone else and start LOVING themselves wholly, fully, and beautifully. This course is for you if:

  • You are ready to LOVE yourself
  • You can make a commitment to prioritize self-care
  • You are ready to live your life with purpose
  • You are ready to stop making excuses for why you can’t take care of yourself
  • You are ready to show up for yourself

This course is NOT for you if:

  • You are not ready to stop making excuses for why you can’t prioritize yourself
  • You would rather push through your feelings instead of diving deeply into them
  • It’s not worth it to you to discover how you can take care of yourself in the most beautiful ways
  • You are OKAY with putting yourself last
  • Self-love is not that important to you

The beauty in my life, the miracles that I attract, this all started when I learned how to embrace and love myself fully. To me, self-love truly is where the magic begins. I want to show you how you can love yourself so that you can let go of the hurt, anger, and frustration you feel. You are worthy of loving yourself. You deserve a life that’s full of love, beauty, and abundance – and you can have it – but you have to love yourself first.

Sign up for your FREE interview call with me to determine if this course is right for you – and hurry, because registration for this course closes on February 15, 2017. Take a moment to set your intention for this course and during our call you can tell me why you think this course is right for you. You’ll have a chance to ask me some questions, too. If we’re the right fit for each other, then welcome to “A Course in Loving Yourself.” I can’t wait to help you fill your life up with so much love.

Love,
Christina

New Year’s Workshop Was a Success!

MewiththeWomenWorkshop

On January 30th I hosted a New Year’s workshop at One Roof in Venice Beach. I am so pleased to share that the workshop was a success! I wanted to provide women with the time and space that they needed to relax, reflect, set an intention for the way that they want to live their lives, and come up with a plan to reach each and every one of their goals.

We spent the day talking about what we want our lives to look like and we tapped into our heart’s deepest desires. We wrote in our journals, created plans for our goals, made vision boards to help our dreams become a reality, meditated, ate delicious plant-based foods, and took part in an interactive talk that I lead. It was incredibly touching to see so many women come together, open up about their fears and desires, bond, support one another, and know that they are not alone in their joys and frustrations.

I am excited to share that I will definitely be putting together more workshops in the future, so please stay tuned!

WomenCreatingVisionBoards2

It turned out to be a nice morning/afternoon, so we decided to sit outside. Here are the women creating vision boards.

JoAnnandMonicaVisionBoards

Like the retreat that I hosted in October, we ended up having lots of mother/daughter duos at the workshop! Here are JoAnn and Monica, sharing their vision boards. JoAnn is working on finding balance in her life and making more time for herself. Monica recently got married – congratulations, Monica! She and her husband Ted would like to start a family soon and they are thinking that Monica should try to get pregnant by the end of the year. Because of this, Monica wants to eat healthier and stay active so she can be in the best shape of her life when she gets pregnant and so that she can also pass on good eating/living habits to her future child(ren). I can’t wait to learn more, Monica!

LynneAnneVisionBoard

Lynne-Anne created a great vision board that covers the four main aspects of her life. In each corner of her vision board are the letters “LOVE” because everything she does is surrounded by love. I love this, Lynne-Anne!

LynneAnneRuthVisionBoards

Here is Lynne-Anne with her mom, Ruth. Ruth is retired and wanting to enjoy her life and play more. She has an adorable cat that cuddles with her, so you’ll notice the two kitties on her vision board :).

GwennaVisionBoard

Gwenna created four vision boards! She’d like to do things fully so she is working on giving everything that she does 100% of her effort. She wants to see things through to the end. She is also working on getting fit and eating healthily. I can’t wait for updates on your health journey, Gwenna!

ElizabethVisionBoard

Elizabeth created two vision boards :).

NicoleVisionBoard

Nicole has been wanting to go on a cruise to Alaska with her husband so you’ll notice that she has a picture of a cruise on the top left corner of her vision board. She also wants to be authentic; she has a top-level position at her company where she is not only the youngest employee, but she’s also the only woman and the only minority. Though she is required to dress professionally and “be polished” at work, with her hair straightened, she sees her true self as rocking an afro, smiling, and wearing a dashiki, which she does on weekends :).

VirginiaVisionBoard

You may have noticed Virginia from my last retreat – I love Virginia! She has such a warm, fun energy and she’s always open to attending these workshops and tapping into her true self. As a mom, daughter, and teacher, she is working on saying “no” more often so that she can say “yes” to herself. It’s taking some time, but I am so proud of her for finally prioritizing self-care!

PamVisionBoard

Pam is retired and loving life! She is traveling and taking the time to enjoy herself and her family. There may be something else that she wants to pursue in life, so with some encouragement from her daughter Nicole, we’ll see what life has in store for Pam!

MewiththeWomenWorkshop2

Here I am with the lovely women who attended this special workshop. It was a beautiful day and I truly enjoyed my time with them. Thank you, ladies!

WomenwithVisionBoards

Here are the women with their vision boards. Great job, ladies!

GettingReadytoMeditateWorkshopThe women are getting ready to meditate!

Lynne-Anne took a picture of me preparing the women for our meditation. I had no idea she was taking pictures!

MeTeachingatWorkshop2

We went over the mantra before we meditated.

I always love spending time with women and helping them reach their goals and live a life filled with love, abundance, and self-care. Please join me for my next workshop!

New Year’s Workshop: Discover Your Heart’s Deepest Desires

Meditation

New Year’s Workshop: Discover Your Heart’s Deepest Desires

When: Saturday, January 30th 2016 from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Where: One Roof, 1333 6th Ave, Venice, CA 90291

Why: You deserve to be happy and live the life of your dreams

I’ve been thinking about our new year’s tradition of making resolutions and I’ve been wondering why so many people abandon their lists so soon into the new year? I’ve also been thinking about those who have decided not to make any resolutions at all, because they feel that they’ll fail at most, if not all of them. I’d like us to get back into the spirit of believing in ourselves and knowing that we can lead lives that are exciting, fulfilling, happy, healthy, and beautiful.  For this reason, I want to invite you to join me for this workshop so that we can search our hearts to discover what it is that we truly want for ourselves and how we can achieve these goals. We’ll be exploring topics such as: How can we make our dreams a reality? What are our deepest desires? How can we learn to be happy now?

We’ll journal, create vision boards, meditate, enjoy a delicious lunch, and listen to a workshop on the importance of following our intuition and allowing it to guide us as we navigate our way to the life of our dreams. We’ll learn how to let go of past stories, emotions, and relationships that are no longer serving us and we’ll instead embrace our inner strength, independence, and courage.

Whether you’ve made a list or not this year, we’ll discuss the importance of self-care and why we need to nourish ourselves mind, body, and spirit as this is how we can live in alignment with who we really are – amazing, radiant, gorgeous women who are meant to thrive, not just survive.

As a special gift, this workshop is available for just $25 if you sign up before January 25, 2016. Afterwards, the price will increase to $45. Be sure to bring a friend who is in need of relaxation and the space to create a plan to achieve her true desires. See you there!

If you want to:

  • Get clarity on how you want to live your life
  • Discover your deepest desires
  • Enjoy the company and support of like-minded women
  • Attend a workshop on how to let go of the past and embrace the present
  • Create a vision board
  • Meditate
  • Eat delicious plant-based food

Then this workshop is for you!

Fall in Love with Yourself First

LoveYourself

I think that if we all spent more time falling in love with ourselves, just as we are, life would be so much sweeter. One of the best things that we can do for ourselves is to say positive affirmations, such as: “I am beautiful”; “I am healthy”; “I am radiant and I attract abundance in my life”; “I am loved.” And then we have to trust that these things are true.

I do believe that there is healing, calming, soothing, energizing, power in falling in love with ourselves. I want to wish you the ability to focus your time and energy on all of the fabulous attributes that make you amazing: compassion; generosity; the ability to make people laugh (including yourself!);  optimism; charisma; charm; wit; lightheardedness – all of the things that make you so wonderful and loveable. When you treat yourself with the utmost kindness possible, it will be so much easier to stay madly, deeply, in love with yourself.  You deserve to be loved by you. You are glorious. <3

Spring Super Smoothies Workshop at Whole Foods Market

WholeFoodsPasadena

Last  night I gave a health workshop at Whole Foods Market in Pasadena. The focus of the workshop was how to incorporate healthy, whole foods in our diet and I  made three different smoothies for people to sample. I am so happy to say that the workshop went well; everyone working at Whole Foods was kind and supportive. The audience was a pleasure to speak with, and I was so excited when Jay, the marketing manager said that he had never seen a group of people so engaged during a workshop at Whole Foods! I love to have interactive workshops, so I was thrilled to have so many people asking questions and being fully present during the presentation.

It’s always fun for me to meet new people who are interested in making healthier diet and lifestyle choices. During the workshop, people learned how different foods affect our health; many people were surprised by all the benefits we get from making simple additions to our diet, including eating more greens, berries, pineapple, coconuts, ground flaxseeds, raw cacao, and more. I had such a wonderful time and am grateful for this amazing opportunity. Below is a picture of all the yummy ingredients I used to make the smoothies:

WholeFoodsMarketWorkshop

During the workshop, I made my Super Green Smoothie, Superfoods Smoothie, and Dessert Smoothie (which I also call my, “Tropical Island Smoothie” because it reminds me of being on vacation on a beautiful island :)).

If you missed last night’s workshop, but would like to attend another one soon, I’ll be giving a health workshop at Whole Foods Market in Porter Ranch on March 25th at 6:00PM. I would love to see you all there!

Can Creativity Make You Healthier?

HappyWoman

Expressing your creativity may just be the health answer you’ve been looking for. Whether you are a dancer, singer, painter, poet, writer, drummer, guitar player, or pianist, taking time to be creative can make you healthier. Since there are plenty of ways to be creative, including blogging, gardening, making collages, acting, etc. find something you love that allows you to relax and be creative and do it! You will be amazed at how your mind and body will start to heal.

I often feel best when I write. For me, there are so many benefits to writing: I express how I truly feel, I tap into that part of me that makes me feel so happy, and I feel like I am telling my story. When I don’t write, the opposite happens. I become stressed, unhappy, and even anxious. If there’s one thing I can tell you with all sincerity is that you have to let that creative part of you shine so you can nurture yourself: mind, body, and spirit. There are no wrong answers with being creative – just do what you love!

I have been reading Dr. Lissa Rankin’s Mind Over Medicine where she lists several benefits to expressing yourself creativily. On page 114, she writes, “Health benefits of creative expression include improved sleep, better overall health, fewer doctor visits, less use of medication, and fewer vision problems. Creativity decreases symptoms of distress and improves quality of life for women with cancer; it strengthens positive feelings, alleviates distress, and helps clarify existential and spiritual issues; it lowers the risk of Alzheimer’s disease, reduces anxiety, and improves mood, social functioning, and self-esteem.” She confirms what I have been feeling all along, which is that we must value our creativity and take time to nourish that part of ourselves. With so much credit being given to doctors, lawyers, and engineers, we often forget how important it is for us to tap into our inner artist, writer, musician, etc. and let that part of us out so we can heal and be happy. (By the way, I think artists, musicians, and writers are an invaluable part of our society! I owe so much to the brilliant authors and actors who make me laugh and to the singers who move me with their incredible voices. To all the amazing creative minds who encourage me to tune everything out and just write, I’ll always be grateful.)

I like to give my clients a journal. They can use this to write gratitude lists, keep track of how certain foods make them feel, and write about anything they want. I give them journals because I feel that my clients are on a journey and this is a great time for them to write about how they feel: their hopes, dreams, desires – I want them to know that they can all come true and that they should be proud of themselves for working with a Health Coach who believes in them. I always remind them that they can and should also do what they love and tap into that creative part of themselves. In this way, I watch them heal, relax, and release some of the stress that they carry around. You would be amazed how much of a weight is lifted when we sing, knit, dance, paint, write, etc. – the world suddenly becomes a better place and that stress, anxiety, and depression we may have been feeling finally melts away.

Dr. Lissa Rankin goes on to write, “The health benefits of creativity are incredible – that’s just how creative expression affects the individual! Creativity also affects your work life, your relationships, your sexuality, your spirituality, and your mental health […] Even seemingly unrelated benefits may arise as the result of expressing yourself creativity, such as improved fertility” (p. 115-116). I always feel that we all have a story to tell; a book inside of us or maybe even a short story that needs to be written and shared. Whatever is burning inside of you, let it out. The cost of keeping it inside could be your health. The benefit? Your mental, emotional, spiritual, and even physical freedom – the start of finally being healthy and happy. Unlock your creativity. Pick up a pen, paint brush, or instrument and sing the song of your heart.

Is it time for you to work with a Health Coach? Prioritize your health and happiness and work with me! Schedule your free initial consultation and start living the life of your dreams. You will have my undivided attention as well as a unique, personal program that is customized for your needs. You’d be surprised how fun and freeing it can be to finally let yourself heal. Read more about my approach to wellness and health coaching here. Whatever you do, nourish yourself. Namaste.

Are You Getting Enough Vitamin D?

Sunshine

I wish I could say that now that it’s fall, we should all check our vitamin D levels and make sure that we have enough in our bodies. However, the truth is, for most people, getting vitamin D is becoming harder and harder – no matter what time of the year it is. Most of this is due to the fact that the best source of vitamin D  is the sun, but the sun has been blamed for a variety of health problems, so people are doing everything they can to avoid it. This in turn has led to a global vitamin D deficiency. The good news is this: you can still get some vitamin D from the sun and not put yourself at risk for getting sunburned or getting skin cancer.

Why do I need vitamin D?

Vitamin D serves many purposes, and does everything from helping your body absorb calcium (which is necessary for good bone health) to helping strengthen your immune system; vitamin D may even offer protection against a variety of diseases including psoriasis, some autoimmune disorders, and even cancer. (Click here for more information.)

What is the best source of vitamin D?

Most doctors recommend getting some sunshine every day, but the exact amount of time that you need to be outside differs from person to person. If you’re fair-skinned, I wouldn’t recommend being in the sun without sunscreen for more than 10-15 minutes. If you’re tan, 15-20 minutes should be fine. The darker your skin, the more exposure to the sun you need to make vitamin D. If you’re concerned about being in the sun, apply sunscreen after about 10 minutes to be on the safe side. I like to put some sunscreen on my face and hands, but wear a tank top and shorts – that way I can protect sensitive areas of my body, but expose some lesser sensitive areas. It’s also important to mention that the closer you live to the equator, the easier it is to get enough vitamin D from the sun. The middle of the day is when you should try to get some vitamin D from the sun. Check with your doctor to make sure you’re staying safe and protecting yourself while trying to get enough vitamin D – we don’t want any overexposure or sunburns!

What if I want to supplement?

Dr. Andrew Weil recommends 2,000 IU of vitamin D per day(based on research and the growing number of people with a vitamin D deficiency). Also, it’s important to note that there are several forms of vitamin D, including D2 and D3. Vitamin D3 is recommended when supplementing. If you want to know if you are vitamin D deficient, ask your doctor for a blood test; if you are deficient, ask your doctor how much you should supplement so that you know what is best for you (we are all different!). There are some vegan vitamin D3 supplements, such as Nature’s Plus Source of Life Garden Vitamin D3, which you can purchase here. (Be sure to check with your doctor before you start taking supplements!).

Vitamin D is important so I encourage you to get a blood test and make sure that you have enough; if  you are deficient, talk to your doctor about supplementing and repeat your blood test in a few months to make sure that you are doing everything correctly and safely. Best of luck! And if you can find some sun out there, go get some vitamin D!

Is it Time to Take Care of Yourself?

YachtNight

I once saw a hypnotherapist who did a writing analysis for me. She was incredibly shocked to see that I leave virtually no margin on the left side of the paper, but leave a wide margin on the right side of the paper. She explained to me the significance of this: I leave no room for myself, but give others plenty of my time and space. She told me that by indenting a little when I write (on the left side) I will give a message to my subconscious to create boundaries with others.

It’s been years since I saw her and I wish I could say that I’m much better at taking care of myself, but the truth is, I have a hard time saying, “no” to people – especially my loved ones. I cook for my family, offer emotional support, and give so much of my time and energy that I forget that I need to also give that love and attention to myself. If you’ve been reading my blog lately, you know that I am working on my “me time” – that precious, positive time that I am trying to carve out for myself each and every day.

One of the things that has helped me tremendously these days is meditating. I cannot sing enough praises for how powerful, relaxing, and amazing meditating has been for me. I signed up for Oprah and Deepak Chopra’s 21-day meditation challenge and it was absolutely amazing! I am hoping that they will offer this challenge again, because it’s such a beautiful way for us to learn more about meditation and turning inward so we can reflect, heal, and relax.

I promised myself that I would get more massages, so it’s on my list of things to do. As much as I would love to say that I am 100% better at creating boundaries with others, I am not there yet. But I am learning to put myself first so that I can recharge and be kinder to myself. Not only will I be more loving to myself, but I will also be an even better friend, sister, lover, daughter, Health Coach, etc. And speaking of being a Health Coach, I always tell my clients to take care of themselves; I talk to my clients about the importance of self-care and taking time to rest and relax so we can fully heal. So, I have been making sure that I work on this for myself as well. I have seen tremendous improvements in my clients who are learning to meditate, breathe deeply, and make that extra effort to take care of themselves. The amount of energy that they have after they do this is truly inspiring and is a testament to the power of doing simple things like taking a bath, reading a book, going for a walk, biking, laughing, etc.

I am honored to be their Health Coach and will continue to spread my message of the importance of quality self-care so that I can hopefully help more people to take care of themselves for a change. If you are one of those people who needs an extra push to put yourself first, I promise I will do my best to help. Your first consultation is free, so what do you have to lose – except say, a few pounds, unwanted stress, headaches, and much more unhealthy stuff that is preventing you from being your best self?

I took the picture above when I was with my friend Jess in Marina del Rey; it was a beautiful night and we had lots of fun. If you work with me, I will help  you tap into free and affordable ways that you can relax, de-stress, and be the best, happiest version of yourself. If nothing else, I will help you do at least one kind thing for yourself every day, starting now. As soon as you read this, contact me so we can schedule your first session. Tell me what’s going on in your life. Are you struggling to lose weight? Is your work stressing you out? Do you feel lonely because you’re not in a relationship? Are you in a relationship that you’re not sure is right for you? All of these things impact our health and well-being and we’ll get to everything you have to say. In the meantime, take a deep breath, relax, and create an intention to heal. Promise yourself that you will do more to put yourself first so that you can relax and recharge. Namaste.
